Street Style: The Best-Dressed on the Pavement

Between shows, in the rain, in the wrong shoes. A week of outfits worth a second look.

Some of the best outfits of the season were never on a runway. They were on the pavement, on the steps, on the way to the next appointment, and mostly in the rain. We photographed a week of them.

What stands out is how little of it is new. Coats that are clearly years old. Trousers that have been taken up and let down. Bags that are scuffed in all the right places. The overall effect is of people who dress like they mean it, and who have been doing so for a long time.

If there is a lesson, it is that confidence matters more than novelty. The best-dressed people on the street were rarely wearing the newest thing. They were wearing the thing they were most at ease in.
