Most films about friendship are really films about something else. A wedding, a crisis, a betrayal that tests the bond until it breaks or is mended in a tearful finale. What is rare, and rather wonderful, is a film that trusts the friendship to be enough.

This one is about two women in their late thirties who drive across the country to clear out a dead friend’s flat. That is all. There is no villain and no reveal. What the film offers instead is a long, funny, unhurried study of how two people who love each other talk when they have nothing to prove.

The best scenes are in the car. The conversation drifts from the practical to the profound and back again, interrupted by snacks, directions and the wrong radio station. It is shot in long takes, and the performances are so natural that you forget you are watching actors.

It will not be for everyone. But if you have ever sat in a car with someone you have known for twenty years and said nothing for a whole motorway, it is for you.
